On the other side of the door, the chill of late afternoon in Gotham awaits. The sun is nearly down, and there is a stiff breeze. A newspaper drifts by.
"That's a pity. Here I was hoping he would be someone worth talking to." the small amount of disappointment the shows on her face is most likely masked by the dim light.
"And who is Superman?" the other thing that cuaght her attention, though clearly the criminal escaping holds higher interest to the thief.
"I think he'd be beneath you. Guy is good at getting out of jail, but not much else. And that lousy toupee...eek." Knox takes a turn way too fast, as City Hall vanishes.
"Superman is the world's greatest hero. Flies, lifts mountains, dresses like a circus performer. Lives in Metropolis, but goes wherever there's trouble. A bit of a boy scout, from what everyone says, but a real good guy. And a great story. Got Lane her first Pulitzer."
"At this point, as far I can tell, just three. Supes, Bats, and apparently a Super-girl. Claims to be Supes' cousin, but since he told Lane he was the last surviving member of his race, and since he's never said anything publicly about her, who knows?
"I think there will be others, but most will be like Bats. All attitude and costume, and otherwise pretty human." The streetlights now become less common as they drive into a very bad area.
Luckily Amanda is rather comfortable in these parts of towns. At least she is used to handling herself. And of course the sword helps. Yes Amanda brought along her sword. Just like home though it is in her coat and isn't noticable until she takes it out. With the exeption of metal detectors and X-ray vision.
"Have you heard of someone named Lobo?" she wonders. She came and visited this Earth only about 30 years later and the people of Earth seemed to know who he was. At least the superhero's and law enforcement did.
Her Eyes continue to scan the area as they drive and chat. Taking it all in. Getting to know the city layout, casing the place as it were.
"Lobo? Nope. He a hero on your Earth?" By now, the dark spire of the decaying cathedral is visible. And in front of it, spotlights and Klieg lights mark the place the Batplane came to inglorious rest.
"You see anything like a parking place," Knox asks a bit nervously. This is not one of those places known for quality parking lots.
Amanda laughs amusedly, "Hardly, he's a friend of mine but hardly a hero. Rather infamous in his universe actually. Last of his kind, like your superman."
Her eyes scanning the place, spotting something that could be considered a spot she points, "How about that?"
"A spot over there." pointing to an opening between two other parked cars. Maybe she should lend him her night vision glasses. Amazing the toys you pick up when you visit other worlds, and yes she carries it in her purse along with other electronic goodies because you never known when they may come in handy.
"Tourists? In Gotham? No one comes here. And I don't think anyone cares much about the bat outside this town. Joker's week of mayhem...it barely made the networks. Guess we're beneath Dan Rather." He snorts.
There are a handful of cops surrounding the wreck, as well as a few men in well-tailored suits. Half the plane is gone, as it's apparently being taken apart one way or the other.
"Are those Feds?" she indicates, not points, the well-tailored suits. She approaches the remains of the wreck at this point less concerned with getting souvinors and more interested in the plane itself.
Maybe she has had some experience with such things, "Possibly ATF." she says.
Amanda is never above such stunts, "No harm in trying." she approaches them making sure to adopt an American accent. "Evening gentleman." flashing a bright charming smile.
"Oh don't I just feel safe now." giving a curtsy, "It is a please to meet you, I'm Amanda." extending a delicate hand out with her fingers dangling downwards.
"What's it like being a US Marshall? Must be exciting. Bet you get to go to all sorts of different places and see all sorts of interesting things."
"It's a job, miss." He does not take her hand. He's a real pro. "They send me places, I do what I'm paid to do, I move on. It's not like in the movies." He does offer a tiny smile.
Knox keep watching, and also looks around the plane from afar. Another five days, he figures, and it will be gone.
Replacing her hand. "Still what a joy it must be to serve this great country of ours." she blushes (this one on cue), "I'm sorry I don't mean to pry it's just so exciting." it would seem to this man that she doesn't get out much.
She watches him go off and for good measure she even gives a disappointed look in the mans direction before moving around to take a look for those souvinors that are supposed to be for sale.
When she hears Knox, "No kidding. I've never met a US Marshall that unenthusiastic about his job. Let me know what you find. If you like I can always take a closer look a little later. Maybe get some pictures." yes Knox would be very suprised if he knew everything that was in her purse right now.
