On the other side of the door, the chill of late afternoon in Gotham awaits. The sun is nearly down, and there is a stiff breeze. A newspaper drifts by.
"Your friend has no appreciation of salesmanship. But his money is what I want, so we cut to the chase." He draws back the screen behind the window display.
"I have no idea what that is. But it's from the engine. A...friend made off with it. It's heavy, though."
Amanda extends her hand and gestures for him to put it on the counter so she can take a closer look at it.
"If you have no idea what is it then how did you come up with it's value?" No he will not get his initial asking price but she is now determining how much he is going to get it for.
"Seems to be what everyone is asking for." The shopman leans in close. "See, we expect the Feds to swoop down any day, so everything is priced to move."
Knox looks at it. "Any clue, Bird? Cold be from a car for all we know."
"True." addressing the shopkeeper, "$200, after all we are taking a risk that your friend wasn't lying." after all he had said his friend brought it to him. Still inspecting it. She is sure that it isn't from a car.
Letting her hand caress the surface of the piece. It;s very impressive. And there is no way Amandais lettinghim pay. First off she knows that her professions pay far better then his and second the money is burning a whole in her pockets.
Her eyes light up, "I can imagine. Though I find it's best to be diversified, helps keep the doors open. Great when things are moving both in and out." okay if it sounds like Amanda is trying to find a fence in Knox's world that would be because she is.
"As I think you can understand my friend and I didn't bring that much cash with us. However..." she reaches in between her breast and pulls out a little black bag.
"Something that I think you might find of interest. I dont's suppose that you have something I can put the contents of this pouch on do you?" At the very least the shop keeper should recognize it as a bag containing jewels of some sort.
The old man finds an appropriate cushion for the jewels, and a jeweler's lens.
"Looks like you called it, Bird. Those from your private collection?" It's one thing to be told someone is a thief. It's another to see the fruits of the labor.
"Just something the kind of thing I keep around for a rainy day." she addresses Knox being careful not to use his name.
She empties the contents onto the cushion. There are some rubies, emeralds, saphires, and diamonds. All of perfect quality. There is at least several hundred dolloars worth of jewels on the cushion and Amanda knows it. This is a small portion of what she picked up a few days ago while out and about with Lobo.
If anyone at the paper got wind Knox was going to use what are likely stolen goods to buy these things, they're be hell to pay. But they aren't his stolen jewels. Heck, they aren't from his world.
"Mister, I think you should listen to my friend. She's making you the best offer of the day. Of the week."
The old man looks up from studying one ruby in particular and grins. "Mac, I do believe you are right."
He should understand that she isn't offering him the whole bag, "See something you like?" One or two of the jewels alone probably pay for the batplane parts though she she will over pay because there is nothing like starting off a business relationship right.
"Two of the diamonds. And the rubies. I have buyers who might be useful." The old man doesn't try to hide his connections. Why should he? This IS gotham, after all.
"Connections?" Knox wonders if there is a story here.
"Ah. You want to know more? I'm afraid that's just for me to know right now. Though a few more visits like this, and that could change."
She takes back all but the agreed upon jewels and lets Knox have the Bat parts. Oh if she is going to do business in Gotham she will need to know everything she can about the Batman so the parts will prove useful.
"Pleasure doing business with you." then looks to Knox to follow his lead.
"Oh, I'm just not used to being that deep on the other side. I get you were a thief. And I know that this is Gotham. But I like to stay on the good side of the law. Not good for me to be seen otherwise." Knox is not upset so much as just uncomfortable.
[ooc: I have no idea what those connections are, either. It's up to Knox to let me know if he finds out. :)]
"Well if you want the story but don't want to do that anymore then I would be fine with continuing the relation with the shopkeeper and report back to you. Besides the more you are around here the higher the chances of you getting recognized. Mr. Nervous." she teases.
Oh how she hopes that Knox will let her come back to continue with this. Even if it ends up to help bring these guys down she likes this place, it really is perfect for those in her 'former' profession.
"I think I might have enough to get started. But I do appreciate the offer, Bird. It never hurts having friends who know the other side of things. And you played that guy like a fiddle." Knox is clearly impressed, and a bit jealous of her obvious (if feminine) people skills.
"I think I need to get these back to the office, and then to start making some calls. What do you think I should do first, find out who those suits were, or get in touch with my contacts in the defense industry?"

Knox looks it over. "How much?"
"$700. I'm not greedy."

"Of course not. For you and your lady friend, I have something special." He goes behid a grubby counter, and pulls out a shoebox.
"I have no idea how he got this, but I think it's the skin of the plane." It's matte black and looks rather sturdy.
