Housewarming

The new apartment awaits its guests. Brand new folding chairs line the walls of the dining room, and the living room is as clean as possible.

Almost everything is ready. Let the housewarming begin!

Well, that's probably partly because SHE IS BEING WATCHED.

DUM-DUM-DUM-DUM-DA-DUM, etc.

Mostly because Steph's waiting for a good opportunity -- like now -- to come up behind her and put hands over her eyes, noisily enough that the warzone-trained Makita won't be entirely unsuspecting. Steph doesn't want a knife in the gut just yet.

Makita still starts and is already beginning to reach for a pistol (which she's not carrying) before Steph's voice registers. She stands silently for a moment, thinking. "A dead girl who almost died again?" she teases.

"Hey, that doesn't exactly narrow the possibilities that much," Steph says, although she doesn't want to be reminded of being dead tonight -- not in Gotham, even if it's not home-Gotham -- so there's a bit of a flinch before she speaks. Hidden well, though.

"C'mon, you have to pick better than that."

"Hmm..." Makita muses with a grin. "I wonder if it's someone who's ticklish..." She reaches back with one hand to find in order to make some scientific inquiries into the subject.

Steph yelps and lets her go. Apparently, the answer is yes.

But once she's dodged, she jumps back to wrap her arms around Makita and squeeze tight. "Missed you. I'm glad you're back!"

Millitime allows for all sorts of "being back".

Makita returns the hug, hard. "It's good to see you, Stephanie."

Millitime is, it is, a wondrous thing.

Steph beams at her. "So! Anything exciting happen?"

"Same old thing, really. The Elders had me on a long recon mission. It was boring. I didn't even get to see Proto."

"Aw, that sucks." Steph releases her and reaches for the nearest food tray.

Makita watches her with amusement then shrugs, "I'll be heading back soon anyway, so I'll probably have a chance to see him then. Or the next time." Because she refuses to believe that he'll die.

Steph nods, totally down with that. "Be safe, 'kay?"

"Always."

"So what have you been up to? I haven't seen you in a while." Partially because she's been gone, but partially because Steph's not been around much... has she?

"Oh ... this and that," Steph says, guiltily. Because Zuko's back but she's pretty sure he doesn't want her to talk about it. It's not like they're officially together again or anything, they're just sort of sleeping together a lot. "Um ... how about you?"

"Uh huuuuh," Makita's drawl suggest just how much she believes Steph. "Want to try again?"

"Just stuff, honestly, nothing too wacky," Steph protests. "C'mon, this is Alex's party, let's talk about something not Zuko for once..."

Makita grins knowingly but shrugs, "Okay then... I still don't like him though." There was that little incident a few months back and all.

"So... Rapunzel was trying to tell me about this game..." Makita's not a world-class topic changer, now is she?

Steph gives her a grateful smile anyway. "Game? Go on, tell."

"I didn't really follow. Something about teams and hitting balls with big sticks and running around." She shrugs.

"Not the sort of thing that appeals to a woman of dignity like yourself?" Steph asks gravely.

"Well, that and..." Makita grins, "She said it was against the rules to hit other people with the stick. Where's the fun in that?"

"There isn't any!" Steph looks horrified. "That's the only reason I ever played those games! Aw, man."

"Yeah," Makita shakes her head. "Some people just don't know how to have fun apparently."

"Or have a different definition of 'fun'," Steph suggests.

"Yeah-- wait. What?" Makita looks truly genuinely puzzled. No she's not picking up sarcasm tips from Steph!
