Housewarming

The new apartment awaits its guests. Brand new folding chairs line the walls of the dining room, and the living room is as clean as possible.

Almost everything is ready. Let the housewarming begin!

"Where does decorating stuff get sold in the US? I want to paint swamp dragons on Jack's new bedroom walls."

"You can go to any good hardware store. I'm ure CJ can help you." Home Depot is still a few years in Knox's future. "You can ask Raps, too. She did most of the shopping."

"Hard ware." she repeats, then nods.

"Are you two living together?"

He raises an eyebrow at this question. It's a pretty reasonable question, but not one he's thought about.

"Nope. Not really sure we could, not here, with her hair always growing. Besides, I think both of us like having our own places. But she's here a lot." He moves towards the guest bedroom.

She goes red.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to be personal. And yes, hair does get everywhere doesn't it? But CJ has a marvellous sucking thing for picking them up off the floor. A woofer or something."

Alex laughs a bit. "Vacuum cleaner. I have one, too. Brand new Hoover. And I bet Raps has two or three.

"And don't worry. I'm sorta surprsied more people don't ask. But I have nothing to hide. She's part of my life, and we're happy." Yes, he realizes, he really is happy. Wow.

She grins.

"That's okay then."

"Yup." He opens the door to a small, cozier room, that looks like it needs some decorating yet. "This is the guest room. Suitable for teenaged super-heroes, 10 year old psychics, and women with small children and their husbands."

Her eyes widen.

"Do you get many of those in?"

"Not yet. But any time you and CJ want to visit, let me know? You'll like Bristol, at least. Can't really reocmmned the city, though." He smiles at her and takes Jack. "What do you say, Jack?"

"Dinner?" Jack replies, not appreciating the decor as it deserves.

"More or less anything, so long as it's cut up and has no bones. And not much salt. And thanks."

She follows them back.

He guides them back to the living room - it's not that big a place, after all - and then to the food. He studies the choices and reaches for a slice of turkey.

"Here, Jack. Home cooked turkey, courtesy of Auntie Rapunzel."
