Housewarming

The new apartment awaits its guests. Brand new folding chairs line the walls of the dining room, and the living room is as clean as possible.

Almost everything is ready. Let the housewarming begin!

"And is that your super power? Dimensional travel?"

"One of them. My primary powers are to do with manipulating hydrogen plasma, and with tweaking the quantum medium that's one of the main sources of superhuman powers in my home world. But I can do more or less anything I put my mind to, really."

"I'm just going to pretend I understood that, and go with the last thing you said...you can do nearly anything."

She smiles in good humor.

"That's very impressive."

He bows. "Thanks. And you understand the important part. I can play with fire," he makes a gentle flame dance briefly around his right arm, "and I can give people powers, or take them away once given. But the important part is the bashful confession of nigh-omnipotence." He grins lopsidedly. "It has to be bashful, lest I get drunk with power again."

"Is that what happened, when you were a bad guy, for a while?"

She can imagine that happening, quite easily to many people.

"I'm glad the only things I can do are grow hair really fast, and live a long time."

"Yes and no. It's not how I went bad, but it's very much how I went worse." Not much of a smile there. "But the power isn't really something I can give up, it turns out. All I can do is try to use it to help people."

"I'm glad you found your way back to the good side."

She means it. There are so many fables who were model citizens, since signing the amnesty agreement when they arrived in the mundane world.

Allie grinned up at him, still half curled into Rapunzel. "It's a house warming. You're supposed to bring things."

This is said in a tone which just screams DUH, but it's done with a giggle in her voice. She might not be amazing at being a little human girl all the time. But there are moments she does remember her mother raised her right.

"Yeah?" Makita grins a bit, "Why don't you show me, then?" Somehow she doubts that "things teenaged girls like" and "things teenaged girls who grew up in a warzone like" won't match up, but she's willing to be pleasantly surprised.

On the contrary, Rapunzel's a very welcoming sight, at least if Makita's sudden grin is anything to go by. She doesn't take a cookie immediately because she's busy giving Rapunzel a quick hug, "Hey."

Rachel flashed a tired grin at Rapunzel "I'm glad I didn't miss it honestly" it had actually been a real worry on her part. "Was I suppose to bring anything?" she asked, eying the cookies and such.

"Your being here is gift enough, but it's nice of you."

She turns her smiling eyes to Alex.

"Shall we go and see what it is?"

Her voice is edged with concern, not knowing her as well as Alex does.

"You look tired."

A hug that is returned enthusiastically.

"Hey. I haven't seen you around in a while--I've missed you."

"Ummm, if you want to?" she offered. Party's weren't exactly her forte, and behavior at them wasn't a subject she'd ever studied.

"I am. I probably will be for a few weeks. It'll pass, promise."

He takes Kita to the small guest room. Compared to any room he's ever been associated with, it's rather cozy, painted and furnished in pastels, with two twins beds against either wall. It's not really that girly, except to guys like Knox.

"Nice, huh?"

"Yup." He's made his protest, and now will happily accept anything that Allie got. Maybe it's one of the homemade things that kids do sometimes and that's nicer than something store-bought.

"What would you like to drink? We have water, milk, soft drinks, beer, harder stuff...you name it."

A few weeks seems like a long time to be tired, but she supposes that Rachel knows her own body and its limitations.

Well, it's a cross gift. Something neither little girl and yet entirely Allie. In the center of the kitchen is a magazine rack, the kind he's wanted for his house though perhaps though about not being able to get.

And resting, most noticeably, in the center of it is a baseball hat.

Still curled in against Rapunzel, she says, with a grin, "I have a matching one."

Hat of course. Not magazine rack.

Rapunzel gives Allie a squeeze and grins at Alex.

"Ah, yes! Now you're ready to begin coaching! Very nicely chosen, Allie."

Makita's mun is not a slacker and does not have her in out-of-Bar limbo... really!

"I've been... around." She leans back and grins, then reaches up and brushes a hand across Rapunzel's hair. "Nice haircut today."

Her eyes sweep across the room to take everything in. It's... homey. It's... what she dreams her own house may look like one day. When the war's over.

Makita's smile is wistful and her voice soft, "It's great, Alex. I like it a lot."

That earns a chuckle.

"For the next hour or so, anyway. I shaved my head just before I got dressed."

It's good to see the girl smiling.

"Have you been staying out of trouble?"

Makita nods solemnly, "Of course." The seriousness may be spoiled by a grin. "What have you been up to anyway?"
